Welcome to the 2012 Young Writers's Workshop!

This seventeenth annual community event for Scarsdale third to fifth graders will take place from 9am until noon on Saturday, March 24th at Scarsdale Middle School. We hope to inspire your children with the opportunity to experience “real life” writing activities, as well as help them appreciate the many ways they can be writers, too.

To register:

Please select 5 workshops, in order of your preference, from the Workshop Guide. Your child will be placed in 2 out of the 5 courses, but you must still make 5 selections. Please note that registration will run from January 27th through February 17th. Registration after  February 17th will be charged a $10 late fee and is subject to workshop availability. (Note: Late registrations will not be accepted after March 2nd.)  All fees are nonrefundable.

The morning will kick off with a keynote address by award-winning author Lauren Tarshis. Her books include Emma-Jean Lazarus Fell Out of a Tree and its sequel, Emma-Jean Lazarus Fell in Love. She is also the author of a 10-book historical fiction series, I Survived, which has sold more than 2 million copies to date. A sought-after speaker at schools, Tarshis is offering two smaller, interactive Master Workshops following her keynote address.

Read about all the workshops in our Workshop Guide. They are taught by talented writing professionals from the worlds of book publishing, journalism, technology, music, politics, art, and much more. Workshop leaders include Emmy and Grammy-nominees, a presidential speechwriter, and some of Scarsdale’s most illustrious citizensWe also have two returning cultural partners - The Picture House in Pelham and New York City-based Writopia Lab; both will provide teaching artists to this event.

You will be amazed at how much fun and learning this program packs into your child’s morning!
